We Understand Your Frustration

Faculty across the country are dealing with accessibility mandates without support.

“I am an instructor at a tech college and we have been tasked with going through all of our curriculum to make all content WCAG compliant... do you know of a tool that I can use to drop my documents/PowerPoint presentations in, to automatically edit them?”
Illustrative concern, not a verified quotation
“Many faculty members are considering removing all slide presentations and images from their Canvas course rather than jump through hoops.”

“Faculty receive no additional compensation for accessibility work... Remediating publisher-provided materials with hundreds of slides is prohibitively time-consuming.”

What We Fix

Test supported partial changes on your files. Review any saved candidate and resolve remaining barriers before publication.

PDF Remediation

Evaluate supported PDF checks and partial fixes. Some files need manual work or produce no usable artifact; review saved output.

PowerPoint Scanner

Scan slides for missing alt text, contrast issues, and reading order problems.

AI Alt Text

Automatic alt text generation for images using AI vision models.

Word & Excel

Check heading structure, table headers, and document accessibility.

Common Questions from Faculty

Planning questions to discuss with your accessibility and IT teams before a pilot.

“I don't know WCAG”

Guidance for review. Upload a supported file, inspect the findings and partial fixes, and ask an accessibility specialist when context or complex structure needs judgment.

“My content has math”

Full LaTeX & MathML support. We convert equations to accessible formats that screen readers can speak aloud. STEM faculty love this feature.

“I don't have time”

Supported fixes are proposed or applied. Review the output, resolve remaining issues, and measure the time required on your own files.

“This sounds risky”

Review the actual saved output. Keep the original, check content and structure, and resolve or escalate uncertain results. Human review remains necessary.

How It Works

Upload a supported document to see findings and eligible partial fixes. Review time and the remaining manual work depend on the file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need IT support to use Aelira?

No! The free Faculty Starter plan is cloud-hosted. Just sign up with your .edu email and start uploading files. No servers, no installation, no IT department required.

What file types can I scan?

PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), and PowerPoint (.pptx). LaTeX support is included in department plans. Video captioning is available with paid plans.

What happens when I hit the monthly limit?

You can wait for your Processing Unit allowance to reset on the 1st of the month, upgrade your faculty plan, or ask your department about a managed allowance. Your account and files are not deleted when the allowance resets.

Can I get my department to pay for it?

Faculty can evaluate the free tier on representative materials before requesting department funding. Use your measured review and manual-fix time when making an ROI estimate. Managed department service starts at $1,499/month with a defined Processing Unit allowance.

Which US Title II date applies to my institution?

The US DOJ Title II web rule generally sets April 26, 2027 for public entities with jurisdiction populations of at least 50,000, and April 26, 2028 for smaller public entities and special districts, with exceptions. Student enrollment does not determine the date. Confirm your institution's obligations with its accessibility and legal teams; a tool or plan does not itself establish conformance.
